Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis - REVIEW

Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis
Vampire Chronicles #12
by Anne Rice

I expected to hate Prince Lestat (Vampire Chronicles #11) and honestly it was a whole lot of self indulgent nonsense. You can read about my mixed feelings toward the series here.

So I approached the next book, which has just the most ridiculous title - Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis - like how much wankery can fit in one sentence, right?

There are two ways to look at this book, and you will have a vastly different reading experience based on how you come at it.

i - Take it at face value.

This is not a badly written novel, Anne Rice isn't terrible, the characters are interesting and varied. It's got fantasy, science fiction, murder, and sex, and it's an easy read. But sadly if you are like the majority of people coming to this novel, you won't be able to take it for what it is.

ii - Read it as a fan (past or present) of the Vampire Chronicles.

As someone who adored the Vampire Chronicles in my younger years let me tell you I hated this book and everything it represents. Anne Rice has gone out of her way to destroy her own legacy. There are explanations and resolutions here that did not need to be.

She crystal fucking skull'd us.
